Elaboration of the Method for Quick Estimation of Aeroelastic Characteristics during In-Flight Flutter Tests

Virtual Engineering Group of Poznan University of Technology entered a new cooperation with Institute of Aviation, Warsaw.

The project:

“Elaboration of the Method for Quick Estimation of Aeroelastic Characteristics during In-Flight Flutter Tests“

is being carried out under the Operational Program Innovative Economy 2007-2013, Priority 1 „Research and Development of New Technologies“, Activity 1.3 “Support for R&D projects for enterprises undertaken by science establishments“, Sub-Activity 1.3.1 “Development Projects“

The main aim of the project is to meet the following functional requirements for flutterometer set by plane producers and test pilots:

  • 20+ measurements at a sampling rate of 32+ Hz
  • Completely automatic identification of mode frequencies and damping ratios
  • One global result for all measurements
  • Period of the update of the identified modes: max.1 second
  • Mode frequency range: from 0.5 Hz

In the computational part of the project the following aspects are to be taken into account:

  • Numerical analysis of the plane aeroelasticity based on a dynamically similar model designed for tests a in wind tunnel
  • Building a numerical solid-structural model of the plane based on  a dynamically similar model
  • Validating the numerical model of the plane

In the framework of the project, the only one in Poland FLUTTER LABORATORY has been established:
